The Good Professor, Dr. Sami Al-Arian

This is the land of liberty they said,
And to this land came the good professor.
A beacon for others, the life he led,
Yet today is made to feel the lesser.

Not for the base and vile acts of some crime,
But for plain words spoken out of freedom.
Still, the good professor now faces time
Where oppression ought to be overcome.

“Death to Israel”, said to be his downfall,
Symbolic words believed since days of yore,
Echoed by Pat Henry in that great hall,
Death to tyranny– it shall be no more.

Do people think they will be left to say:
“We believe” and they have not yet been tried?
God has tested those before them each day,
And knows who have been true and those who lied.

The good teacher hails the fate he endures
And the heaven that shall be his abode,
He suffers for liberty– mine and yours,
The duty on all that is now bestowed.
