What’s true love?

An overwhelming feeling
Of warmth and affection
Of the compassionate mother
Toward her newborn
The proud father
For the graduating grown
The dedicated teacher
Inspiring a young child
Coming from a poor family
That’s torn

True love is feat and action
Of a parent giving up
A promising career
To raise a daughter or a son
Or forego a lucrative deal
To spend quality time
With the family for fun

True love is a sincere
and determined effort
By the grown-up child
Taking care of parents
In their old age
When weak and destitute
Or someone gladly availing time
In the service of the needy
Not awaiting a word of thanks
Or gratitude

True love is the everlasting
Passionate expression
Absolute devotion
Of the faithful spouse
Despite awesome temptations
They might’ve had
The mutual deep appreciation
For each other
Not just on their anniversary
But on all days
In good times and bad

True love is willingness
To give others second chances
In a spirit of forgiveness
To offer unconditional apology
When wrong or mistaken
Exhibiting humility and kindness

True love is the infinite commitment
Of putting the interest of loved ones
Above yours
In unceasing sacrifice
Of listening to others attentively
Before passing judgment
Or offering advice

True love is showing friends
Genuine loyalty and concern
Without expecting to receive
Anything in return
To wish for them
What you do for your own
To accept them as they are
Their achievements and shortcomings
The arcane and the known

True love is to thank
Thine Creator
In a true spirit of submission
And to defend the motherland
Against evil and aggression

True love is to strive
To achieve ultimate peace
With all your surroundings
Showing respect and grace
Mercy and greater understanding
