(Somewhere in the halls of Congress)

It’s the greatest secret in town
Which the powerful
Are able to suppress
It’s been occupied for a while
That’s why the country
Is in a big mess
Everyone is looking the other way
The executive, the judiciary
And the press
Though some brave voices do speak out
They’re fewer than a dozen
More or less

While the public is treated with contempt
The special interest
Is honored as a host
Selling the country to the highest bidder
So long it ain’t
In the Times or the Post
Curtailing civil liberties is acceptable
Not even reading the bill
But voting as a ghost
Tolerance has limits
Jail Arabs and Muslims
We’ve got to defend
Our ways at all cost
But standing up to
The holy cow is risky
You’d pay dearly or
They’d make you toast
