Dr. Al-Arian
Moved to Tampa
Tampa--
The Tampa Bay
Coalition for Justice and Peace is pleased to announce that Dr.
Sami Al-Arian was removed from the abusive conditions of Coleman
Federal Penitentiary to Orient Road Jail in Tampa.
Judge James Moody signed an emergency order on Friday demanding
that the U.S. Marshals Service transport Dr. Al-Arian back to Tampa.
While the move
is great news, we must continue ensuring a fair trial for Dr. Al-Arian,
a right guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution. At his inaugural, President
George W. Bush repeatedly
stressed "liberty" and "freedom." Indeed, Dr.
Al-Arian, a pre-trial detainee who has been held under physically
and psychologically torturous conditions, has been denied his freedom
for almost two
years now.
End.
