On a little girl
Is scaring
The big bear

Real or mirage?
Mere slogans
Or ideas great and large
Has faith become so intolerable
And a damning charge?

Have we come full circle?
A hijab, a crucifix
A yarmulke, or a turban
Symbols of freedom
Of tolerance
A global village
And independence
Has the state become dogmatic
So threatening
And problematic?

Has secularism
Become a religion
Synonymous with fundamentalism?

O’ faithful of the world
Unite to preserve
Liberty, equality and fraternity
The great ideas of the human race
From now to eternity
